GR/EATS

price range: $7-10 per person

Nestled in the Japantown of West Los Angeles, gr/eats is not the typical ramen, sushi, or curry restaurant. It also offers a salad and sandwich selection, infused with Japanese and seafood elements.

Inside you will find that it is pretty much a "hole in the wall," as you literally sit elbow-to-elbow with strangers, or, fellow epicureans.this is not a picture of dylan The walls are painted plain white and sporadically mounted upon them are various art pieces. So you get this feeling that you are eating in a tiny art gallery!

As for the food, I ordered the Wild Salmon Sandwich and Dylan ordered the Seared Tuna Sandwich. Both were good, but nothing special. The most noteworthy part of our meal was the Mixed Fries! That means: fried potatoes, yams, and bananas! ..all together in harmony! Who else does that?? Really now. Another thing that caught us by surprise was a complimentary scoop of vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Ain't that special!

When you leave, be sure to check out the neighboring GR (giant robot) and GR2, Asian pop culture boutiques, with which the restaurant is affiliated.

PRESS REFRESH IN MY MIND

There is so much to say, and all this space in which to say it, yet so short of an attention span to deal with. Let's start off with some basic vocabulary...

BVC: (from the initials of Desperate Housewives' notoriously anal retentive character Bree Van de Kamp, but we thought it was spelled Bree Van de Camp. Oh well!) verb. to freak out when the appearance of something is not perfect and orderly. adjective. having shallow, superficial, killjoy Bree-like tendencies that miss the point and ruin the moment; unsettled, always wanting to fix things.

BDD: noun. Big Damn Deal.

BHB: noun. Bony Hip Bones, like those of a swimmer or a naturally sexy person.

Wall-to-wall: noun. not to be confused with the socially facilitating Facebook feature, a Wall-to-Wall is one of many people who are "on your nuts" and pining for your attention. this concept is best exemplified by Chris Brown who gloats that "they (ladies) keep comin' from wall to wall!"
